A conversation with TWIIID and Scott William Raby
UKK is pleased to invite the public to join the Belgian art/law collective TWIIID along with board member Scott William Raby for a conversation on art and law at the SVFK.

Through a presentation and public discussion, TWIIID will introduce their “foster care exhibition agreement” to a public audience in Copenhagen as a point of departure for a larger conversation on rethinking artistic and legal practices. Specifically, they will explain the origins, collective process, and contract itself that produced a “foster care” agreement for art at Kunsthal Gent in 2021 as part of the “Endless Exhibition”. By closely examining their unique model contract along with the audience, the collaborations, tools, and possibilities that interdisciplinary artistic, curatorial, and legal practice can activate will be highlighted. The public dialogue around the contract will therefore unfold a broader conversation on the needs, responsibilities, and roles between artists, curators, and institutions. The agreement also puts into focus the power legal frameworks have on affecting our economic, social, and political relations throughout artistic production. What new legal analogies can we envision for artistic production that are more accessible, democratic, and help us “common” in our own localized context? How can broader legal collaboration with visual art be a part of better, fairer, more interesting conditions for art both in Denmark and abroad? These are some of the questions the event will aim to introduce.
This event is an extension of TWIIID and Scott William Raby’s investigation A “Foster Care” Agreement for Artwork & the Search for New Legal Analogies with f.eks. in Aalborg.

TWIIID, or Twee-eiige Drieling (or the Two-Egged Triplets) is a legal sounding board in the arts based in Belgium. The collective consists of Tobias Van Royen, Jens Van Lathem, (and Robin Goossens). By experimenting with different media, methodologies, and pedagogical strategies, TWIIID seeks to find fair and sustainable solutions for legal issues within contemporary art practices, and provide the cultural sector as well as its advocacy organizations with inspiration and rationale for building solid artist’s statutes. Tobias Van Royen has a Master’s Degree in Law, Tax Law, and Cultural Management, and an MA in Cultural Management from the University of Antwerp and Jens Van Lathem has a Master’s Degree in Law from the University of Ghent.
Scott William Raby is an artist, researcher, and arts organizer based in Aalborg, Denmark. His artistic practice utilizes self-organization, art-as-soft-infrastructure, and community focused public engagement, a.o. to create new interactions between artists and society. Themes such as socio-political amelioration, existential social crises (e.g. economy, climate, urban development, etc.), and operations of power are often explored through performativity, social installations, public interventions, and dialogical exchanges. He co-organizes various platforms and projects such as f.eks., and sits on the boards of UKK and BKF (Northern Jutland Region).
