UKK is happy to share the announcement of our 3rd event for our project Urgent Matters. The event is organised by our student working group: Quick Sand, Slow Steps.
When stuck in quicksand, struggling violently only makes you sink faster. Instead, you have to lie down and slowly wiggle out. This idea of patient, deliberate movement is the inspiration behind our name Quick Sand, Slow Steps.
We are a group of students dedicated to rethinking how we learn together, share knowledge in collective settings, and better allocate resources in the arts. We explore questions such as: How can we learn from failure? How can we make education more accessible and less hierarchical? How do we create environments that foster both care and learning?
For our first event, we invite you to join us for an afternoon of engaging talks with the visual artist and writer Samara Sallam, and M.I.S, a research group consisting of a student from each of the Danish art academies, working with the conditions of art schools.
This event will be an opportunity to exchange knowledge, participate in discussions, and facilitate a space for socialising and community building.
Program:
14h
Welcome and gathering in the garden of decay, introduction to the space.
M.I.S. - Where are we now: M.I.S. invites you to an open discussion about How we handle, store, build an archive the material gathered by their collective research? They will share what problems, dilemmas and questions their research brings up and invite you to have an open conversation about “the archive” as their method.
15h
Samara Sallam - A school in the making: Samara is joining us to share her project and process of building up a school, addressing psychological alienation in art education. Samara is involving her hypnosis practice as an essential part in imagining the school of spaces. We will sit together in the garden and have an open conversation.
16h
Gathering herbs for a tea and eat some cake as a open end of the event.

About Urgent Matters:
This is part of UKK’s Urgent Matters project, which brings attention, new voices, and diverse perspectives around topics that are politically pressing in the art sector and broader society. The focus is on highlighting innovative, experimental, and critical approaches to bridge gaps in understanding, but also create new networks in relation to different artistic (and social) crises. The events will take place throughout Denmark and/or online in 2024.
This event is kindly supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.
